My hair is now well past my shoulders, almost to mid-back. But summer is upon us and it's too hot and humid to leave my hair hanging about. Noble helped me by tightly braiding my hair and sharing her "stick" to put it up. I like the results.

Ten Things of Thankful - Brought to you by the Letter H
1. Health - as in good; after last week's bout with the flu I'm thankful for good health and only the normal aches and pains.
2. Humor - Saturday night I said to TopDad, "I missed you last week." He replied, "I didn't know you were aiming." It felt so good to laugh!
3. Heat - We are still in a deep freeze here in Iowa; I wear three or four layers and still shiver. I'm thankful I'm inside and not crossing the plains in a handcart.
4. Hairspray - It's the glue that helps me grow out my hair. I thought today of a way to motivate myself to keep going: I'm growing historic hair. I like to dress up in historic clothes and long hair looks more authentic hence the need for historic hair.
5. Handkerchiefs - My old linen hankies are so much softer on a sore nose than paper tissues. I love my pretty hankies!
6. Harmony - As in the boys getting along and laughing together; as in beautiful music too.
7. Hats - To cover my ears when the wind is blowing; however, I'm not so thankful for hat hair, but one tries not to think of that.
8. Georg Freidrich Handel and Franz Joseph Haydn - two of my favorite composers.
9. Hindsight - which, of course is 20 20; unlike my current sight which is almost legally blind.
10. Homemade - Just smell that fresh baked bread!
Thanks so much for stopping by. Have a look around and I hope you'll be back.

JET got a haircut!
| JET on Christmas Day |
Sometime after Christmas, he got a haircut, but it was still fairly long. Too long to suit me.
Then last week he called me and said, "Uh, Mom I was wondering if you'd call Kim and set up an appointment for me to get my hair cut." "Of course." "And uh, I was wondering if you could pay for it."
"Yes, JET."

Dandylion
Sunday evening Dandylion combed his hair back out of his face. Is it just me or is he just about the most handsome thirteen year old boy you've seen recently? By the way, he has decided to continue to comb his hair this way. I love it.

New Haircut Part 2
I love the smooth look and know that when I don't want it I can let all the waves and curls show and have fun with a more tousled look.
By the way, can you see Noble at the left of the photos? She is doing great and now has a computer so we had our first Skype call last night. She took me on a tour of her dorm room, showed me her new clothes, her textbooks and even her computer in a mirror. Isn't technology great!
New Haircut Part 1
In ten minutes I'll be stepping up the street to get my hair cut. I have a new IMAC computer so I can take a picture with it and post it right away, I hope.
I have a Talbots catalog from 1990 with a haircut I like, and as I looked at the catalog I realized that the clothing draws heavily from the thirties for inspiration. With all the blogs I read about sewing and vintage clothing I'm not surprised that I saved this particular catalog as having some elegant, classic styles in it.
I believe my tastes have always run to the vintage, or historically inspired styles. One of my favorite dresses in high school was one that Elizabeth Bennet would have liked. Empire waist, puffed sleeves, ankle length, made of a thin cotton, if I remember correctly small floral or leaf print on a cream ground. I loved that dress!
Time to go, be back in an hour or so.
