Modesty

This is the best explanation for dressing modestly that I've ever heard:

  1. So what are you saying? What should we wear? Oh I know let's wear a long black skirt, preferably knit so that it will fit and make sure it is baggy and then some kind of a large over grown ugly t shirt and make sure it is knit and doesn't cling. If I see one more LDS woman in a black skirt with and ugly knit top I will scream. Have some pride in your appearance. I actually call it ( the black skirt ) the LDS uniform. I do not own a black skirt, I do however have a nice black suit.

    1. I'm not suggesting a uniform of any kind; and I feel the same way about baggy knit clothing, it's horribly unflattering and frumpy looking. I prefer colorful (not black), well tailored clothing that skims a body rather than reveals its curves. Too many women don't know how to sew anymore and have to rely on the cheap, mass-produced fast-fashion available.

I really appreciated his explanation that what we wear reveals our character and personality to others. And then asks if we want to reveal that much to strangers.

When I see sisters at church in body hugging, and therefore body revealing, clothing I wonder what they're saying with their clothes. Our bodies are sacred, and information about their size and shape shouldn't be shared with the general public.

  2. Hi there!
I totally agree with the idea that we should be careful how we present ourselves. Self evaluation is difficult at best so often we just do what "friends" or "everyone else" is doing. That is a big mistake. History even validates that every civilization that let the bars down on on how they dressed themselves consequently came to ruin soon thereafter.
